It was part photo trip, part photo lesson. It didn’t take long, and Kayla’s pictures are stunning. We both gravitated towards the darker images, helped by the cooperative overcast.

I’m pretty easy to convince to go hiking. Offer me a trip to the nearest majestic place and our niece and nephew, and I’m even willing to get up at 4AM to make it happen.
Shots are mainly with a new excellent little lens I got for my Fuji X-A1 – the Voigtlander Heliar 15mm f/4.5.
One of the impressive features of the waterfalls at Ricketts Glen is both how closely spaced and how varied they are. Not only are the falls themselves dramatically different, but they vary themselves as the seasons change and as the water level changes.
My friend and fellow photographer Stephen Gushue joined me for a hike along Ricketts Glen’s Falls Trail, which encompasses 21 waterfalls in its inspiring 8-mile loop.
